Vinaa is developed and operated by Sujeevan Nagarajah, trading as Vinaa in New Zealand. This policy explains how information is handled when you visit the Vinaa website, purchase or license Vinaa, or use the Vinaa macOS app.
Vinaa is local-first
Your conversations, projects, settings, and files are stored on your Mac by default. Vinaa does not operate an account service that receives or stores your conversation history.
If you enable iCloud sync, supported app data is stored in your private iCloud account and synchronized by Apple. Vinaa does not have access to the contents of your private iCloud database. Your use of iCloud is also subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy.
Credentials
API keys and other credentials you add to Vinaa are stored using macOS Keychain. If you enable iCloud sync, supported credentials may be synchronized through your iCloud Keychain. Vinaa does not receive or store those credentials on its servers.
Information handled through the app
AI providers and external tools
When you use an AI provider, Vinaa sends the information needed for your request directly from your Mac to the provider you selected. This may include prompts, relevant conversation history, files, tool results, and instructions. Vinaa does not proxy that content through a Vinaa-operated AI service.
If you connect an external tool or service, information necessary to perform the action is sent to that service at your direction. AI providers and external services process information under their own terms and privacy policies. You are responsible for choosing services appropriate for the information you submit.
Files and authorized access
Vinaa may access files, folders, or other resources that you select or authorize so it can provide the feature or perform the action you requested. This information remains on your Mac unless you direct Vinaa to send it to an AI provider, external tool, iCloud, or support channel.
Model training
Vinaa does not use your conversations, prompts, files, attachments, API keys, or AI responses to train AI models. Third-party AI providers may process the information you send according to their own terms, privacy policies, and account settings, which Vinaa does not control.
Licensing and trials
Vinaa processes limited licence and device information to start trials, activate purchases, enforce licence limits, deliver updates, prevent abuse, and provide support. This can include a technical installation identifier, a device name, licence status, activation history, update entitlement, and limited purchase information received from the seller. Vinaa does not receive your full payment-card details.
Vinaa's licensing and hosting services may also process ordinary request and security information, such as an IP address, timestamp, and request status, to operate the service, diagnose failures, and prevent abuse.
Crash reports and diagnostics
If crash reporting or diagnostic logging is enabled, Vinaa may send technical information to Sentry to identify and fix errors. Reports can include app and operating-system information, error details, stack traces, and internal technical identifiers. They are not intended to include the contents of your conversations or files. You can change these choices in Vinaa's Privacy settings.
Product analytics
If you opt in to product analytics, Vinaa uses PostHog to collect limited product-usage and app-lifecycle events. These events use a random identifier and are not linked by Vinaa to you. Product analytics can be turned off in Vinaa's Privacy settings.
Information handled through the website
The website may process:
- standard request information, such as IP address, browser, device, referring page, approximate location, and pages visited;
- pseudonymous visitor and session identifiers used by Piqo to understand website use and attribute purchases;
- your email address and subscription activity when you sign up to receive marketing emails from Vinaa, such as beta access or product updates, managed using MailerLite;
- information you voluntarily provide through a survey, support request, feedback service, email, or community channel; and
- transaction and checkout status associated with a purchase.
Some website resources and linked services are provided by third parties, including Google, Featurebase, and Discord. If you subscribe to product updates or submit feedback through Featurebase, your email and related activity are handled by Featurebase. Information you provide to those services is also governed by their privacy policies.
Purchases
Dodo Payments is the Merchant of Record and legal seller for purchases made through the Vinaa website. Dodo Payments collects and processes payment, billing, tax, fraud-prevention, and transaction information under its own privacy policy. Vinaa receives only the information reasonably needed to fulfil the purchase, operate the licence, attribute the sale, and provide support. Dodo Payments acts as an independent controller for the information it processes as Merchant of Record.
Cookies and similar technologies
The website uses cookies or similar browser storage for website analytics, session measurement, purchase attribution, and email signup functionality. A Piqo visitor identifier may be stored in your browser. You can block or delete cookies using your browser settings, although doing so may affect measurement or form functionality.
Why information is used
Vinaa uses information where necessary to:
- provide the app, website, licences, trials, downloads, and updates;
- complete purchases and provide customer support;
- maintain security, prevent fraud or abuse, and enforce licence limits;
- diagnose problems and improve reliability and product usability;
- operate email signups and send the communications you subscribed to;
- respond to communications and provide support;
- comply with law and protect legal rights; and
- perform other activities with your consent.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, Vinaa relies on performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and improving the product, consent, and compliance with legal obligations, as appropriate to the particular activity.
Service providers and international processing
Vinaa uses service providers for hosting, payments, licensing, analytics, diagnostics, email, and support. These include AWS, Dodo Payments, Apple, Sentry, PostHog, Piqo, MailerLite, and services you choose to connect. They may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Vinaa uses contractual and other safeguards where required by applicable law.
Vinaa does not sell your personal information or use it for third-party targeted advertising. Information may also be disclosed where required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
Retention
Vinaa retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. The retention period depends on the type of information, why it was collected, security and fraud-prevention needs, applicable legal and accounting requirements, and the retention settings of relevant service providers. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymized where reasonably possible.
Information stored locally on your Mac or in your private iCloud account remains there until you delete it or manage it through Vinaa, macOS, or your Apple account. Email subscription information is retained until you unsubscribe, request deletion, or the service is discontinued. Licence records may be retained while necessary to operate and protect the licence and meet legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent. You may also:
- turn app analytics and diagnostics on or off in Privacy settings;
- unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email we send;
- manage website storage through your browser; and
- manage local and iCloud data using Vinaa, macOS, and your Apple account.
To make a privacy request, email support@vinaa.ai. Identity verification may be required. You may also complain to your local privacy authority. In New Zealand, this is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Age requirement
Vinaa is intended for people aged 18 or older. Vinaa does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app or website.
Security and changes
Vinaa uses reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. This policy may be updated as Vinaa or applicable law changes. Material changes will be highlighted through the website, app, or another appropriate channel.
